On the Banbury Road to the east of the suburb is a row of shops, including a branch of the Oxford outfitters Shepherd & Woodward. On the Woodstock Road to the west is St Edward's School. South Parade is a shopping street that connects the Woodstock and Banbury roads.
Also in Summertown is Ewert House, where many Oxford University students take their examinations.
Buses between the centre of Oxford and Summertown via Banbury Road include the Oxford Bus Company 2, 2A, 2B or 2C and Stagecoach 7, 7B or 7D.
