A
supercollider is a high-energy
particle accelerator. The 80 km long
Superconducting Super Collider, which before its cancellation in October 1993 due to the large cost, was planned for construction in
Waxahachie, Texas, is one such device. The device would have been capable of accelerating beams of protons to around 300,000 km/s.
