Suraj Bhan (Hindi: सुरज भान) was born on October 1,1928 at village Mehlanwali in Yamuna Nagar district of Hariyana.He was a senior leader of erstwhile Bharatiya Jan Sangh and now
Bharatiya Janata Party.He represented
Ambala parliamentary constituency of
Haryana in 4th, 6th and 11th
Lok Sabha. In 1987 he was elected to Hariyana assembly and served as Revenue Minister in Devi Lal's government between 1987 and 1989. After his party, BJP broke alliance with Devi Lal's party, he served as Leader of Opposition in Hariyana assembly. He was Agriculture minister in
Atal Bihari Vajpayee's 13-day government in 1996.After the fall of the government,he was named
deputy speaker of 11th Lok Sabha.He contested 1998 Lok Sabha elections but lost to Aman Kumar Nagra of BSP.After that he took over first as governor of
Uttar Pradesh and then governor of
Himachal Pradesh.
