"Surreal" is the seventeenth single released by Ayumi Hamasaki on September 27,2000. September saw the release of her third full-length album Duty. Duty, like her previous studio albums, topped the charts and went on to sell over two million copies. On the same day, the single SURREAL was released, which was an initial pressings only single, and it also peaked the charts like Duty, making Hamasaki the fourth artist following Seiko Matsuda, KinKi Kids, and WANDS to have a single and album top the charts on the same week, and with the release of Ayumi Hamasaki Concert Tour 2000 A 第1幕 topping the DVD charts, it gave her the record of being the first artist to top three charts on the same week.
