TACV Cabo Verde Airlines is a scheduled and charter, passenger and cargo airline based in Cabo Verde. It is the national flag carrier of the Cape Verde Republic operating an inter-island service and flights to Europe, North America, South America and the West African mainland. Its main base is Sal Airport (SID), with a hub at Praia Airport (RAI). TACV stands for "Transportes Aéreos de Cabo Verde" meaning Air Transportation of Cape Verde in Portuguese.
Praia Airport, which was opened to international flights on September 2005, caters mainly to the Cape Verdian diaspora; Sal Airport, which previously handled all international flights, currently serves mainly the tourist industry of Sal Island.
Logo
Its logo includes a blue wing that has 7 lines that represents when the plane is flying. The TACV letters are colored in red and the letter T hovers over the letters ACV.History
The airline was established in 1958 and is 100% owned by the Cabo Verde government. In July 1975, following independence, the airline was designated as the national carrier and became a public company in 1983. It employs 788 staff.
Services
TACV operates the following services (at January 2005):
- Domestic scheduled services: Boa Vista, Maio, Praia, Sal, São Filipe, São Nicolau and São Vicente.
- International scheduled services: Amsterdam, Bissau, Boston, Dakar, Fortaleza, Las Palmas, Lisbon, Madrid, Milan, Munich, Paris, Porto,Rome.
The only island currently not served by domestic flights is Brava.
- It will increase the frequency on its Praia-Boston route from 1 to 2 flights a week on June, 2006. Currently it operates a weekly flight on Tuesday, it will add a Friday flight, both operated with Boeing 757-200.
- Inaugurated nonstop service Praia-Paris Charles-de-Gaulle and now offers a weekly Friday flight. On July 5,2006 it will add a Wednesday flight, both operated with Boeing 757-200.
