(in lower case), this is used as a derogatory reference to the University of Texas at Austin by students and supporters of its arch-rival, Texas A&M University, since they say that the University of Texas is a Texas university. Students and supports of the University of Texas at Austin respond by saying t.u. stands for The University, implying that Texas A&M is of second caliber.
