Taça Guanabara

Taça Guanabara (or Guanabara Trophy) is a football tournament organized yearly since 1965 by the football Federation of Rio de Janeiro. It is the first round of the Campeonato Carioca (state football championship in Rio de Janeiro). Twelve teams, divided in two groups, play five games each and the first two teams in each group qualify to the semi-finals.
Since 1982, the winner of the Guanabara Trophy plays the winner of the Rio Trophy to crown the football state champion of Rio de Janeiro.

Statistics
Since 1990, the winner of the Guanabara Cup won also the Rio de Janeiro State championship in 1992, 1994, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2003 and 2004.CR Flamengo in 1996 and CR Vasco da Gama in 1998 have won both rounds of the Rio de Janeiro State championship.
Since 1980, only CR Flamengo has won the Guanabara Cup and the Brazilian National Championship during the same year, CR Vasco da Gama did it in 2000 but was not officially the winner of the Brazilian National Championship.
