Tadashi Nishiyama introduced traditional Aikido to Davao in 1993 when he began offering lessons at the Ananda Marga Meditation Center in Buhangin, Davao City. When the number of practitoners grew, Nishiyama and his students formally organised the Seiwakai Mindanao Aikido Club in August 8, 1995. In that same year, the head of Seiwakai in Japan, Koichi Shibata, visited the dojo in Davao to formally recognise the club and hold the first international Aikido exhibition and workshop in Davao City. Seiwakai Mindanao Aikido Club was renamed Seiwakai Aikido Philippines in 2001.
