Tal-y-Cafn railway station
Encyclopedia : T : TA : TAL : Tal-y-Cafn railway station
Tal-y-Cafn railway station is located on the Conwy Valley Line from Llandudno Junction to Blaenau Ffestiniog. Prior to nationalisation the station was a train crossing station and was known as Tal-y-Cafn and Eglwysbach and publicised as the station for Bodnant Garden, which is in the parish of Eglwysbach and a lengthy up-hill walk. Tal-y-Cafn is the site of a Roman river-crossing point, and a mediaeval ferry that was replaced by a toll bridge in 1897. The Tal-y-Cafn Hotel on the A470 road adjoining the station is an ancient coaching inn. The bridge, now toll free, is the only road bridge over the River Conwy between Conwy and Llanrwst. The station buildings, mostly in private occupation are well maintained. The station is manned owing to the need for crossing gates on the bridge road.
