Explanations for the presence of sand
Scientific
Scientists believe that the sand accumulation in Talakad is due to the sharp turn taken by the Cauvery river. The wind blows sand from the river bed towards Talakad.
Mythological
According to mythology, the presence of sand in Talakad is due to the curse of Alamelamma consort to the local representative of the Vijayanagar empire.
