Talakaveri situated in the Brahmagiri hills in Kodagu district, Karnataka, is the place where the River Kaveri originates. The river begins here as a small perennial spring, but flows underground again to emerge a short distance away. It is situated at a height of 4187 feet (1,276 m), and is 7 km away from and Bhagamandala, 48 km from Madikeri. Apart from a major pilgrimage center it is also an important tourist spot in Karnataka.

On Tulasankramana day (October 17) thousands of pilgrims flock to the river’s birthplace to witness the miraculous rise of the fountainhead, when water gushes up from the spring at a predetermined moment.
