-->
Tamanend or Saint Tammany (c. 16281698) was chief of the Lenni Lenape, popularly nicknamed a "saint." Tammany signed a peace treaty with William Penn in Pennsylvania in 1683. His motto was "Unite in peace for happiness; in war for defence."

His name was appropriated by New York City's corrupt Tammany Hall.

Mount Tammany, at the Delaware Water Gap; St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana [link]; and Tamanend, Pennsylvania are also named after him.
