Taos Ski Valley is a village in Taos County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 56 at the 2000 census. The town is one of the major ski areas in the state. It is one of the last U.S. resorts not to allow snowboarding. Very alpine in climate, culture and geography, the area is almost indistinguishable from a community in Switzerland. The village has an elected council.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 6.1 km² (2.4 mi²), all land.

Demographics

As of the census[Geographic references#2GR2] of 2000, there were 56 people, 32 households, and 12 families residing in the village. The population density was 9.2/km² (23.8/mi²). There were 263 housing units at an average density of 43.0/km² (111.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the village was 87.50% White, 7.14% Native American, 1.79% Asian, and 3.57% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 16.07% of the population.

There were 32 households out of which 12.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 37.5% were married couples living together, and 59.4% were non-families. 46.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 3.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.75 and the average family size was 2.46.

In the village the population was spread out with 8.9% under the age of 18, 5.4% from 18 to 24, 33.9% from 25 to 44, 50.0% from 45 to 64, and 1.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 47 years. For every 100 females there were 166.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 155.0 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $67,708, and the median income for a family was $103,422. Males had a median income of $65,833 versus $24,375 for females. The per capita income for the village was $43,143. None of the population and none of the families were below the poverty line.
