Technopolis

Technopolis is a term coined from the word "technology" and the suffix -polis, which means city in Greek. The term has many specific meanings, with the common one being the place related to hi-tech industry.
For example, the term "technopolis" is used to describe an area, city or metropolis with a high-tech industry. A notable example would be San Jose, CA, in the heart of the Silicon Valley, known for explosive growth electronic industry there. Another notable example would be Tokyo, Japan.
A number of technopolises, also known as technology parks (similar to research parks) , have been deliberately sponsored in order to promote the development of hi-tech in a particular area and to repeat the success of the Silicon Valley. Examples are Sophia Antipolis, France, and Astropolis, Lapland, Finland.
Technopolises are usually the hubs of high-tech marketing.
Technopolis is also the name of the Flemish science center in Belgium located in the city of Mechelen.
Technopolis was also the title of a comic book series published by Caliber Comics in 1997.
