Teddy Bridges

Encyclopedia : T : TE : TED : Teddy Bridges

Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt Bridges, a President of the United States, was a fictional character in the ABC political drama Commander-in-Chief played by Will Lyman.

Bridges is from Orange County, California. (In the episode Wind Beneath My Wing President Allen attends the groundbreaking of his library in Orange County, revealing it is where he is from). He was elected Governor of California at the age of 30, served as governor for 16 years* before being elected Vice-President. After serving as Vice President for four years, he ran for President on the Republican ticket with Mackenzie Allen as his running mate; she became the first female Vice President.

Bridges suffered a bleeding aneurysm in his brain that caused a massive stroke. Originally his prognosis was that he would live, but need over a year of extensive therapy, leading to the conclusion by all that he should resign (something he vowed not to do until Allen did). However, massive bleeding into his brain led to his hasty death. As a result, his vice president, Mackenzie Allen, became president despite his final wish for her to step down to allow Nathan Templeton to take the oath instead.

Bridges left behind his wife, Grace, and his young son Tommy. He was buried with full military honors.

Note: *The California Governor can serve only two terms of fours years each. That is incompatible with this show's information.
