Telecom Australia
Encyclopedia : T : TE : TEL : Telecom Australia
Telecom Australia was the trading name of the Australian Telecommunications Commission (1975 - 1989) (later renamed the Australian Telecommunications Corporation, which was broken off from the Postmaster-General's Department, and in turn was merged with OTC on 1 February 1992 to form the Australian and Overseas Telecommunications Corporation or AOTC).
Throughout these changes to its official name, its domestic trading name remained the same until 1 July 1995, when it was rebranded to Telstra. The AOTC had had its official identity changed from AOTC to Telstra in April 1993, and internationally had also adopted this as its trading name since.
