Television X

Encyclopedia : T : TE : TEL : Television X

Television X is an adult television channel owned by Richard Desmond. It formed in June 1995 and has since expanded into three separate channels: Television X features UK made pornographic shows, including works by Ben Dover and Anna Span; Television X 2 shows tapes sent in by viewers; and Television X 3 shows adult movies, at one time including Debbie Does Dallas and Deep Throat.

Celebrity guest hosts

Many of the stars of shows, such as Teresa Scott, Tamara Noon or Andrea Spinks, provide links between programmes, although recently a few minor celebrities such as Jordan, Jodie Marsh and Abi Titmuss have provided links, with Marsh also hosting a program although she did not have sex in it. Cape Town born Sheena Sapsford also appeared recently in Summer Lovin' 3. The most pornographic thing any celebrity has done is when a documentary showed Michelle Bass from Big Brother 5 doing a topless photo shoot for the Daily Star (also owned by Desmond) which advertises on the channels. Shock Jock Caesar the Geezer presented on the channel for a while.

Programming

Television X often present themselves as presenting new programmes every night and that they provide a wider range of material than most adult channels: at one time using the slogan "not just a girl/girl channel" (disparaging how many UK channels rely heavily on lesbian pornography). However, it has also copied elements of many other adult channels (such as a live call-in sex programme).

Occasionally the channel has theme nights: mainly marathons of certain shows or of a particular style - for example, Swingers Night or Freaky Sex Night. It also sometimes runs competitions, which allow the winner to make their own Television X programme or star with one of their presenters.

Additional incentives

The channel also offers an optional £30 worth of adult magazines for new subscribers.

Other names

It was also known as The Fantasy Channel for a long time, although it since seems to have dropped that name.
