The ten-lined June beetle is a scarab beetle, living in the western United States. They are attracted to light and feed off the needles of coniferous trees. They can make a hissing sound when touched or otherwise disturbed.
Description
They are rather large in size (for an insect), some growing to sizes as large as an 1.25 inches or more. They have large distinctive antennae consisting of several plates, which they can use to make a rattle sound or can close up when threatened. The wing covers have 4 long white stripes and one short stripe each. The underside of the thorax is covered with brownish hairs.External links
