Tenoch was a purported ruler of the Aztecs during the fourteenth century during the Aztec (or Mexica) travels from Aztlán to Tenochtitlan. Tenochtitlan is a Nahuatl word meaning "place founded by Tenoch". There is significant disagreement whether Tenoch is mythological or a real Mexica leader, later mythologized.

The Nahuatl symbols of his name are found in the Mexican flag: Tetl, the rock, and Nochtli, the prickly pear cactus.
