Cast

Synopsis

[Spoiler warningSpoiler warning]: Plot and/or ending details follow.
A woman buys a gold thimble from a department store, on the 9th floor. As she rides the elevator downward, she sees it is scratched and takes it to Complaints for a replacement, but when she tries to convince the manager that she bought it on the 9th floor, she is told that it doesn't exist. Eventually she is trapped in the department store, gets to the 9th floor and finds that she is a mannequin, and it had been her turn to go out into the world for a month. Since she had been away too long, she had forgotten her true nature. The episode ends with the store manager doing a double take on seeing a very familiar mannequin on display the next day.

Remake

Main article: The After Hours (1986) (The Twilight Zone)

The episode was remade in 1986 for The New Twilight Zone. The plot is similar but the emphasis is more on suspense.
