The Coral Island is an 1857 novel written by R.M. Ballantyne.
It portrays three boys, Ralph, Peterkin and Jack, stranded on an island. The book's value as a realistic portrayal of being stranded on an island has been questioned, but it was still a success.
It is also important to note the book Lord of the Flies was written in response to the unrealistic behavior and the racism associated with black skin found in Ballantyne's book.
