The Crystal Of Ultimate Vision
Encyclopedia : T : TH : THE : The Crystal Of Ultimate Vision
The Crystal Of Ultimate Vision is a mystical item in the Marvel Comics Universe. It was introduced in Giant-Sized X-Men Annual 11, and its only known user was Wolverine, although the incredibly powerful villain Horde sought it. It grants the holder infinte power, and immediately elevates them to godly status. In this, it is comparable to the Phoenix Force, yet it is not sentient. However, the citadel it resides in is. The citadel shows visitors their heart's fondest wish, and allows them to join the fantasy. Only one of incredible mental strength and discipline may make it through. When the citadel has been navigated and an individual has arrived at the Crystal, it is free to be claimed. The immense power that the Crystal possesses corrupts many. Only through achieving that power and not being tempted to remake the universe allows for the individual, and their group, to leave the Citadel. If the individual attempts to use the power for their own ends, then their race is deemed unsuitable for the universe, as it has not matured properly. The Crystal is seen as a test for all races in the Universe. Any race to fail the test is held genetically in place. They may not evolve naturally, and will make little/no scientific breakthroughs ever again. It is responsible for the stagnation of both the Kree and the Skrulls, among many others. Both have been space faring for millennia, yet neither has evolved any breakthroughs. It has been recently shown that though the Crystal of Ultimate Vision is extremely powerful, it is not all-powerful. The Forever Crystal from the Avengers Destiny War saga has evolved the Kree despite the imposed stagnation. Also, the Skrulls have begun hatching mutants, though as Apocalypse states "nothing comes close to the power exhibited by the Terran (Earth) mutants." This revelation has yet to be explained. Humanity owes its ability to adapt, evolve and discover to the indominatable will of Wolverine, for if he faltered, humanity would, too, have stagnated.
