The Devil's Own is a 1997 movie starring Harrison Ford, Brad Pitt, Ruben Blades, Natascha McElhone, and Treat Williams.
Plot
Brad Pitt plays an Irishman who is a member of the Provisional Irish Republican Army in the United States for an arms deal, while Harrison Ford plays a highly ethical Irish-American cop who agrees to host him in his home, unaware of his purpose. Turmoil arises; Harrision Ford's character slowly discovers Brad Pitt's true identity.
Notes
- The movie attracted notorious press attention during principle photography. Many stories had reported that there wasn't enough room for both its stars Harrison Ford and Brad Pitt, and attributed that, in addition to troubles on the production and escalating the budget. At the U.S. Box Office, the movie was a flop, earning only half of it's $90 million budget.
- The title is explained at Ford's daughter's confirmation, where the congregatation renounces Satan and all his works while Pitt remains silent.
- Some critics have made comparisons between this film and The Godfather series.
- A recurring theme in the film is the jealousy felt by Pitt's character, the Irish native, towards Ford's character, an Irish-American, and his peaceful life in New York City. Whenever Ford brings up turmoil in Ireland, Pitt responds with something along the lines of: "This isn't an American story. It's an Irish story. There's no happy ending."
