"The Entity" is episode 511 of the Comedy Central series South Park. It originally aired on November 21, 2001.
Plot synopsis
In the episode, Kyle's cousin, Kyle, from Connecticut, comes to live in South Park (in the episode, Mrs. Broflovski refers to Cousin Kyle as Kyle, and her son as Kyle 2; the same technique will be used here). Kyle 2 is shocked at his cousin, who is an overly-stereotyped version of a Jew, constantly complaining about everything. Kyle 2 offers Cartman $40 not to make fun of his cousin; Cartman tries and fails to do so. Much of this episode then goes on to have Kyle 2 and his friends try to get rid of Kyle, by tricking him onto a plane, tying him to the back of a bus while he is on a sled, etc.Meanwhile, Mr. Garrison, tired of the airlines, decides to invent his own vehicle. Inspired by watching Enrique Iglesias's singing and gyrations on TV, he invents the gyroscope-powered monowheel "IT." "IT" can go up to two hundred miles per hour, gets three hundred miles to the gallon, and is an all-around a better mode of travel. The only problem is that it is controlled by four handles: two used by the hands, one in the mouth, and a fourth handle which is inserted into the anus. These (especially the last two) are supposed to resemble penises, and to anyone but Mr. Garrison and old women, are very uncomfortable; however, it is still considered better than the airlines, and Mr. Garrison is a smashing success.
However, the government decides to bail out the airlines again, and ends up outlawing the "IT;" as a result, Kyle, who had invested in the "IT", gets a $5,000,000 bail out check and decides to return home. Kyle 2 and his friends now try to get him to stay, but he says they are just "hick jock rednecks" and seem stereotypical of such people; he ultimately leaves, dashing their chances for any money.
Trivia
- Kenny dies when an airport security guard shoots him for carrying toenail clippers to the airport.
- In the episode "The Losing Edge", it is revealed that Cousin Kyle's last name is Schwartz.
- Cousin Kyle is probably based on Cousin Oliver from The Brady Bunch.
- The "IT" was based on the Segway and the hype surrounding its introduction.
- Antarctica Airlines was a fictional airline used to test many electronic signs at Denver International while the airport was under construction.
- Denver International Airport's main concourse is accurately depicted in this episode's opening.
- Bill Gates has a hole in his head, in reference to his execution in , which is somewhat of a continuity error since he should have been left completely unscathed after Satan granted Kenny's wish to restore the world back to how it was before the war with Canada.
- It is eventually revealed that the IT is actually usable without the 'uncomfortable features'.
Quotes
- Ms. Choksondik: Now, Kyle, in my class you have to concentrate!
