The King of Queens is an American situation comedy series that debuted on September 21, 1998, and is still running as of the 2005-06 season on CBS. It is also in syndication and will begin airing in reruns on TBS in fall 2006. The program is filmed at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, California.
The sitcom has been renewed by CBS for the 2006-2007 television season, for a 13-episode midseason order, after the network reached a deal with Kevin James. This will bring the show to its ninth and final season, as confirmed by co-star Leah Remini on her official website. With the end of That '70s Show and Will & Grace in May 2006, The King of Queens has assumed the title of the longest-running live-action sitcom currently on the air.[link][link]

Plot summary
Blue-collar couple Doug and Carrie Heffernan (Kevin James and Leah Remini) share their home in Rego Park, Queens, New York with Carrie's oddball dad, Arthur (Jerry Stiller). Burly Doug, who makes a living as a parcel deliveryman, often has to scheme to find time alone with Carrie, who works as a secretary at a large law firm, as Arthur can be quite a handful — so much so that they hired a dog-walker, Holly (Nicole Sullivan), to look after him. When he's not working, clashing with Arthur, or nesting with Carrie, Doug hangs with his advice-giving buddies Deacon (Victor Williams), Spence (Patton Oswalt), and his cousin Danny (Gary Valentine).Cast
- Doug Heffernan — played by Kevin James - Doug can be characterized as the average "slacker" and at times seems like the real-life version of Homer Simpson. If he isn't delivering parcels, he's either eating, watching sports television, attending football games or bickering with his wife, who is constantly scolding him about something. However, part of the reason there is so much bickering between Doug and Carrie is due to Doug's complaining and objecting all the time in his loud, unpleasant voice. He has trouble dieting, and due to his weakness for pleasure and food, referred to as "The Fat" by his large fan base.
- Carrie Heffernan — played by Leah Remini - is Doug's wife, Carrie is hard working and always busy with something, whether its keeping up the household, running errands, or finishing up reports for work. Although Carrie can be pleasant and friendly, she is no Louise Jefferson. There are lots of times when she doesn't do the right thing. She is known for being downright scary, as mentioned in many episodes. Because of Carrie's threatening behavior, Doug lies and keeps things away from her a lot. Carrie scolds harshly and is verbally abusively, usually using nasty words like "fricken", and constant name-calling and insults regarding her husband being overweight. Although Carrie can be very intimidating, she can also be very remorseful and sympathetic, usually always coming around and being apologetic for any of her bad behavior.
- Arthur Spooner — played by Jerry Stiller - Arthur, Carrie's childish, difficult, fierce father, is the classic oddball of the family who lives in the basement of the Heffernan house because he accidentally set fire to his own home in the pilot episode. Arthur has an even more loud, unpleasant voice than Doug and throws unreasonable tantrums like a little boy. Arthur is often seen causing regular chaos through his numerous antics and getting on Doug's bad side. He is a bigmouth and braggard who loves bending the truth and this gets him into trouble quite frequently. Sometimes he is referred to as "The Old".

- Deacon Palmer — played by Victor Williams - As Doug's best friend, Deacon is the classic "family man". He's often seen hanging out with Doug, whether it's at their lunch break, over the weekend, or for a family gathering. Although he is often experiencing relationship problems, Deacon always has time to chill out and have fun.
- Spence Olchin — played by Patton Oswalt - Spence, another friend of Doug's, is often viewed as the nerd of the group. Not only is he very paranoid, he also takes an interest in science fiction and comic book conventions, interests that his friends don't share. He is of Albanian heritage.
- Danny Heffernan — played by Gary Valentine - Danny Heffernan, Doug's cousin, is also seen hanging out with Doug, Spence, and Deacon. Due to little attention from the show, little is known about him. Danny and Spence are roommates.
- Holly Shumpert (2001-2005) — played by Nicole Sullivan - Holly is a cheerful yet insecure dog walker hired by Doug and Carrie to walk Arthur. She is often seen arriving at the Heffernan house to pick up Arthur but is also a family friend of the Heffernans. She is often viewed as a bit strange because of her unique habits and beliefs.
