The Salton Sea is a 2002 film starring Val Kilmer and Vincent D'Onofrio directed by D.J. Caruso.

Plot

Tom Van Allen and his wife knock on the door of an innocuous-looking house asking for directions. While they are inside, gunmen enter, guns blazing, and Allen's wife is shot and killed. Tom, who survives, realizes that they had mistakenly stumbled into a small methedrine lab. Following his wife's death, Tom drifts into methamphetamine addiction and enters the drug subculture, taking on the new identity of Danny Parker. Has "Danny" forgotten his previous life as a husband and musician--or does he still harbor a deep-seated rage towards the gunmen who killed his wife?

Memorable quotes

Danny Parker: "Tom Van Allen got his revenge. Good for Tom. And Danny Parker? He got gut-shot for being a lowlife rat. That sucks for him. As far I'm concerned, they're both dead. So who is this guy? Tell you the truth, I still don't know. But I like his chances. I really like his chances."
Danny Parker: "My name is Tom Van Allen. I'm a trumpet player."

Quincey: "No you're not. You're a motherfuckin' rat!"

Danny Parker: "My name is Tom Van Vallen... or Danny Parker. I don't know anymore. Maybe I'll let you decide. Maybe you can help me, friend. As you can see, I don't have a hell of a lot of time left. Avenging Angel...or just plain old Judas? Loving Husband...? Prodigal son...? The prince of Denmark...? All of these? None of these? You decide, friend. You decide."
