The World is a cruise ship (although referred to as a residential community by its owners) managed by ResidenSea [link] and owned by it's occupants. It is known primarily for the fact that it has actual apartments on board that can be rented or purchased.

Statistics

The World has a Bahamas flag, a gross tonnage of 43,524 tons. The vessel is 644 feet long, 98 feet wide, and has a 22 foot draft, 12 decks, and a maximum speed of 18.5 knots. The crew compliment is 250.

The ship possesses 165 residences (106 apartments, 19 studio apartments, 40 studios). These range in price from $1.3 million to $3.6 million (not including annual maintenance fees), or can be rented for a minimum of $1,200 per night. The ship can carry between 150 and 200 passengers and guests. As of November 2005, 95 percent of the residences had been sold.

Facilities

The World has many things that a regular cruise ship would have but due to the extended stay of their guests and residents they have some shops including a Jewelery store, and a World Boutique, along with other facilities such as a virtual golf course, a tennis court, a jogging track, an internet café, a casino, and several restaurants.
