There is a Tide, (published in 1948), better known as Taken at the Flood, is a detective fiction novel by Agatha Christie. It features her famous Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot.
Plot
Hercule Poirot investigates the case of the family Cloade. Gordon Cloade, a rich businessman, was killed in the London Blitz shortly after marrying a young widow, Mrs. Underhay. Since then, the young woman has been in control of the Cloade fortune and withholding it from her husband's family. Poirot becomes involved after he is visited by the deceased man's sister-in-law, who claims that Mrs. Underhay's first husband is still alive.Title
The title of the book is a line from Shakespeare's Julius Caesar: "There is a tide in the affairs of men, which taken at the flood leads on to fortune...".Film Adaptations
