Theresa Sokyrka

-->Theresa Sokyrka (born April 1, 1981 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan) is a Canadian singer-songwriter. On the second season of Canadian Idol, she was the final runner-up to winner Kalan Porter.
Sokyrka studied music at Red Deer College in Red Deer, Alberta. She is drawn to the blues and jazz more than other musical genres, and sings with passion and vulnerability. She tends to scat during her songs. During an Idol taping, Lionel Richie said that there was the soul of an old black woman living inside her. She comes from a very musical family, and she plays the violin, guitar, and piano.
Theresa loves animals; she is a vegetarian. She is also an environmental activist. Theresa attended the Ukrainian bilingual elementary school in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan now housed at Holy Family School. Currently, she is dating John Collins, bassist for the Canadian indie rock group, The New Pornographers.[link]

Her debut album, These Old Charms, was released across Canada on April 26, 2005. The album includes favorites she had performed on Idol, original songs written by Sokyrka, and jazz songs. It debuted at number 4 on the charts and was certified Gold in June 2005. These Old Charms was also nominated for a Juno Award in the category of Pop Album of the Year against Jann Arden and Michael Bublé as well as fellow Canadian Idol, Kalan Porter.
