The Thermodon river is currently named Terme or Therme-Tchai, and it is located in northern Turkey between the cities Ordu and Samsun. The river flows about 50 km east of the coastal town Samsun into the Black Sea.
The region consists of a fertile, rather secluded, plain. High mountains can be found to the south and east, and the river Yesil Irmak flows in the west.
In Greek mythology the legendary capital of the Amazons, Themiscyra, was found on the river Thermodon.
