T. Janakiraman also known as ThiJaa, is one of the giants of Tamil fiction .He, along with Laa.Sa. Ramamirutham and Jayakanthan is the considered as the backbone of modern Indian Tamil fiction.

Writing Style

ThiJaa excelled in taking the humdrum of everyday life as his theme and giving it a unique and timeless quality. A vein of humour ran through ThiJaa's writings. He had an attraction for the river Kaveri which was evident in his writings and his characters spoke the dialect of the Kaveri delta region.

Works of ThiJaa

He has written about hundred short stories and a dozen "novels". His "MogamuL" (Thorn of Desire), for which he won the Sahitya Academy award,has been hailed as among the best Indian fictional works. His other novels "Amma Vandha" and "Marappasu" have been translated into English as "Sins of Appu's Mother" and "Wooden Cow" respectively. Some of his other great works were Malar Manjam, Uyirthen and Semparuthy.
