Thialf is an
arena in
Heerenveen,
Netherlands. It is primarily used for
ice hockey and
speedskating. Thialf opened in
1967 and holds 12,500 people in the indoor stadium.
The Thialf stadium holds the first indoor 400 meters skating arena in the world. In the Netherlands, speedskating is a very big sport. Dutch skaters win a lot of medals every year, including Olympic medals. Thialf is perhaps the most important of all ice rinks. Every year there are main skating events like the world championships.
