Encyclopedia : T : TH : THO : Tho people

The Thổ ethnic group (also Keo, Mon, Cuoi, Ho, Tay Poong) inhabits the mountainous regions of Northern Vietnam, mainly Nghệ An province southwest of Hanoi. They speak the Muong language, which is closely related to Vietnamese. Some ethnologists theorize that they are a sub-group of the Muong.

The Thổ population numbers approximately 68,000.

The Tày ethnic group is also sometimes referred to as the Thổ.
