Time Dilation Device (Stargate)

In the science fiction television series Stargate SG-1, a Time Dilation Device is a device that alters the rate of time's passage within an area of effect compared to the rate of time passage outside that area - either speeding it up or slowing it down.
The first such device seen in the show was created by the Asgard to generate a time dilation bubble of radius 0.16 light years. The device was first used by the Asgard to trap the Replicators in a time bubble where time was slowed down by a factor of 104 relative to the outside of the time bubble. This bought the Asgard time to figure out what they could do about the Replicator threat. The Replicators, however, were able to modify the device to speed up time inside the bubble instead. This allowed them to evolve at a faster rate. The Replicators also learned how to create time dilation effects themselves. This was seen in an incident in which the Replicators used the technology to escape from a black hole created by the Asgard. Samantha Carter, after witnessing the escape of the Replicators from the black hole, asked Thor how it was possible. Thor's reply was that he did not know the answer, which showed that the Replicators had actually mastered the time dilation technology further than that of the Asgard.
In the 9th season episode Ripple Effect, the Asgard loaned the SGC a miniature time dilation device. The device was mounted on a bomb to allow it to get close enough to a black hole to disrupt Stargate wormholes that had become entangled with it. The bomb wasn't used.
The Ancients were also able to build time dilation devices. In the episode Epiphany one is discovered in the Pegasus galaxy, creating a region of accelerated time on a planet's surface that was intended for use as a refuge by people pursuing philosophical enlightmenment for the goal of ascension.
