Tiocfaidh ar la

Encyclopedia : T : TI : TIO : Tiocfaidh ar la

Tiocfaidh ár lá is an Irish language phrase, pronounced "Chuckhee ar law", which translates as 'Our day will come'. It has become the unofficial slogan of the Irish Republican movement, especially embraced by the IRA and Sinn Féin. The phrase was first popularised by Bobby Sands.

A variant is 'Beidh ár lá linn!' which is pronounced "Bay ar law ling" and translates as 'We shall have our day'. Some consider this to be better (that is, more idiomatic) Irish than the more common version.
