Tkts booth
Encyclopedia : T : TK : TKT : Tkts booth
The TKTS ticket booths in New York and London sell Broadway and West End theatre tickets, respectively, at discounts of 25-50%.
New York's TKTS first opened in 1973, and is operated by the Theatre Development Fund. There are two booths, one in Duffy Square (the north end of Times Square), and the other by the South Street Seaport in Lower Manhattan. At the latter, you can purchase tickets to the next day's matinees in addition to that evening's performances. (Due to construction, between spring 2006 and fall 2006, the Duffy Square/Times Square TKTS booth has been relocated to the nearby Marriott Marquis hotel.)
London's TKTS was formerly known as the Half-Price Ticket Booth. It is operated by The Society of London Theatre and first opened in 1980; its locations are in Leicester Square and at Canary Wharf.
The Society of London Theatre has licensed the TKTS trademark from the Theatre Development Fund, but the two organizations are otherwise unrelated.
It is pronounced "Tee-Kay Tee-Ess" - a sure tourist shibboleth is hearing it pronounced "tickets".
