Tolland County is a county located in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Connecticut. As of 2000, the population was 136,364. The 2004 population estimate was 146,667. [link]
Counties in Connecticut have no governmental function: all legal power is vested in state and town governments.
Tolland County has the same boundaries as the Tolland Judicial District.
Tolland County is incorporated into thirteen towns.
According to the United States Census, 2000, the county has a total area of 417 mi² (1,080 km²). 410 mi² (1,062 km²) of it is land and 7 mi² (18 km²) is water. The total area is 1.66% water. [link]
The county is part of the Hartford metropolitan area.

Demographics
As of the year 2000, there were 136,364 people, 49,431 households, and 34,156 families residing in the county. The population density was 332/mi² (128/km²). [link] There were 51,570 housing units at an average density of 126/mi² (49/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 92.34% White, 2.72% Black or African American, 0.21% Native American, 2.27% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 1.08% from other races, and 1.35% from two or more races. 2.84% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.There were 49,431 households out of which 33.30% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.00% were married couples living together, 8.00% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.90% were non-families. 23.50% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.70% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.03.
In the county the population was spread out with 23.10% under the age of 18, 12.90% from 18 to 24, 30.70% from 25 to 44, 23.20% from 45 to 64, and 10.20% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 100.60 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.50 males.
The median income for a household in the county was $59,044, and the median income for a family was $70,856. Males had a median income of $46,619 versus $34,255 for females. The per capita income for the county was $25,474. 5.60% of the population and 2.90% of families were below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 4.60% are under the age of 18 and 5.20% are 65 or older.
