Tom's Hardware Guide

Encyclopedia : T : TO : TOM : Tom's Hardware Guide

Tom’s Hardware Guide is a technology website founded in 1996 by Dr Thomas Pabst. It was intended to be a focal point for the worldwide community of IT professionals, early adopters and technology innovators. It has since expanded operations in the United States, Europe and Asia and features subsidiary sites in eight languages.

Although Thomas Pabst is German, the website was originally set up in the United States. However, it does have considerable following in Germany, with a strong German edition of Tom's Hardware Guide in existence. Furthermore many editors, including the current editor of Tom's Hardware Guide USA and the editor of the news section, TG Daily, are German. One of the larger testing labs used by Tom's Hardware internationally is based in Munich.

Tom's Hardware Guide is owned by Tom's Guides Publishing, which generally goes by the acronym TG Publishing.

As of January 2006, Omid Rahmat is the CEO of the company, [link].

In March 2006 Tom's Hardware Guide launched a UK & Ireland edition, bringing to 12 the number of editions which exist worldwide.

Criticism

The website restricts UK users from accessing the US version of the site. Tom's representatives have also not denied, when questioned, that the UK is the only region currently experiencing these restrictions. The website does claim however that UK articles are exactly the same as US articles, this claim though can not be tested or confirmed by UK users.
