Toontown is a fictional place near Los Angeles where animated characters ("Toons") live. It was invented by Gary K. Wolf and first mentioned in his 1981 novel Who Censored Roger Rabbit?, but only in brief mentions. Toontown was given fame when it was depicted in the novel's (loose) film adaption Who Framed Roger Rabbit and the television series Bonkers, and is reproduced in Disney theme parks (as Mickey's Toontown) and online (the MMORPG Toontown Online). While content is aimed at children, there are adult users.
A Toontown-based background was used in Toon Disney's commercial indents from its launch in 1998 to 2002.
Toontown is also a nickname for the city of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
