Top-down perspective
Encyclopedia : T : TO : TOP : Top-down perspective
Top-down perspective, also sometimes referred to as bird's-eye view or helicopter view, is a camera angle used in computer and video games that shows the player and the area around him or her from above. It is most often used in simulations such as Civilization and Railroad Tycoon. It is also used in some action games such as Grand Theft Auto.
Many later games abandoned this viewpoint, opting for an altered top-down dimetric or isometric perspective. For instance, the sequels to Civilization and Railroad Tycoon abandoned the top-down view used in the original titles to use dimetric projections, while the third installment of GTA was rendered in full 3D.
