In 2005, a Landbridge project was announced to build about 3,000 km of railways, to link mines and ports and towns within Saudi Arabia, and to do part of the work needed to link with adjacent countries.

While none of the new lines in the current project cross the border into adjacent states, several lines nearly reach these borders and in directions that head for useful destinations. Thus one line points towards Amman, the capital of Jordan.

Some highways in Saudi Arabia are considered in poor condition compared to other oil-producing neighbor countries. But the city highways are well maintained such as the roads in Riyadh which are considered some of the best roads in the world. The roads are created in a way so it does not reflect the strong sun and resist the summer's high heat. The outer city highways such as the one linking from coast to coast are not as great as the inner-city highways but the government is now working on rebuilding those roads.
