The Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) is currently under construction and is expected to commence operations at the end of October 2006. The THSR will connect Taipei City in the northeast of the island of Taiwan to Kaohsiung City in the southwest. The journey time is expected to be 80 minutes instead of the current 4-6 hours by conventional rail.
