Encyclopedia : T : TR : TRE : Trey Atwood
Trey Atwood is a fictional character on the FOX series The O.C. He was the first character to be played by two actors in the series— Bradley Stryker during the first season, and Logan Marshall-Green in the second season up to now. Trey is the older brother of Ryan Atwood, and grew up with him in Chino with their mother, Dawn Atwood.
Season 1
Both brothers were arrested in the pilot episode after an attempted car theft. Ryan was cut loose after efforts made by public defense attorney Sandy Cohen, his future guardian, while Trey remained in prison. Trey only appeared for a short time during the first season, when he asked Ryan to complete a job that he did not finish prior to his prison sentence.
Season 2
In the latter half of the second season, Trey was released from prison and lived for a short time with Ryan and the Cohens. During this time, he and Marissa Cooper became acquainted, with Marissa eventually helping Trey to settle into life in Newport Beach. With his brother's support, Trey tried to make a fresh start in his new surroundings. However he struggled to re-adjust and resorted to stealing at an auction in order to obtain the downpayment for a apartment and became involved with drugs when he met Jess Sathers, a blonde newport girl who addicted to cocaine at a party thrown for him. Jess overdosed at the party and Trey owed up to prevent Marissa from getting arrested for supplying the drugs, as the party was at her house. Sandy Cohen managed to get the charges dropped after Trey gave the identity of the drug dealer who did supply Jess. However Trey got into a casual relationship with Jess, and as a result started taking cocaine & canabis. This lead to him attempting to rape Marissa Cooper, who had gotten back together with Ryan. Trey regretted it afterwards, and apologised to Marissa but then warned her against telling Ryan. Ryan began to suspect something went on between Trey and Marissa, and after seeing him leave Marissa's house and some comments from Jess he confronted Trey about it, but Trey denied it. Trey then went into a drug deal with Jess that went badly, and as a result Ryan told Trey he wanted him to leave Newport. Ryan however later found out about Trey's attempted rape of Marissa, and a violent confrontation ensued, with Trey strangling Ryan and nearly killing him. Marissa was warned by Seth and walked in on this, and pleaded with Trey to stop. Engulfed in a fit of rage, Trey refused to stop and Marissa shot him in the back to save Ryan. It was left unclear whether he would survive.
Season 3
As the third season opened, Trey was revealed to be in a coma due to the gunshot wound. He awoke in the hospital to find Julie Cooper offering money to implicate Ryan as the shooter. Prevented from doing this by Marissa, and facing a broken relationship with Ryan, Trey was last seen on a bus leaving Newport for Las Vegas. Since then, Jess, a girl that Trey had helped to make drug deals, has returned to the O.C. While helping her with boyfriend troubles Trey calls her on the cell phone, Ryan refused to talk to his brother. Trey also sent Jess with a toy car resembling the one in the first episode they attempted to steal.
