Trini Kwan
Encyclopedia : T : TR : TRI : Trini Kwan
Trini Kwan is a fictional character in the Power Rangers universe. She was the original Yellow Ranger on the television show Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, originally played by Audri DuBois in the original pilot, and later played by Vietnamese American actress Thuy Trang after the series was picked up and the pilot was re-filmed.
Character history
She made her first appearance performing a kata, on the first episode of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. When Rita Repulsa escaped and began wreaking havoc on earth, Trini was chosen along with four other teens to receive a great power which was drawn from the spirits of the dinosaurs. These powers would give them the ability to transform into a fighting force only known as the Power Rangers. Zordon, a wise wizard and the Rangers' mentor, chose Trini for her compassion, martial arts talent and quick wits.Trini has a peaceful; quiet nature, but only when battle was the only option did she display her physical abilities. She is very patient, but only to a certain point. If pushed over the limit, she becomes a razor-sharp fighter with lightning reflexes.
What characterizes Trini most on the series seems to be the affection she feels for her friends and family, and her sense of honor. In nearly every episode featuring her, her relationships are at the fore, whether it be her cousin Silvia, her uncle Howard, or even her sisterly bond with Kimberly or uniquely strong friendship with Billy. In all cases, her attachments are fierce, and both her vulnerability and strength are shown in just how much she cares for those around her. Also, her strong sense of honor and responsibility are emphasized, as she strives to set good examples to the youths in her care, or live up to the codes of honor she respects.
Trini was known for her endless devotion to saving the world and protecting others. Her intelligence was second to Billy Cranston, the Blue Power Ranger. She was an environmentalist, trying to preserve the earth's natural beauty. Her peaceful soul and compassionate heart made her a wise friend to call upon when there was trouble, often taking on the role of "morale booster" for the team, believing teamwork a key to success. She will always be remembered as a selfless fighter who tried to save the world.
A particular love interest Trini had was in a young man named Richie. The two never went on a actual date however, but Richie did show signs of interest in Trini. Whenever the two talked, a tone of attraction is well noticed, and Richie's nervousness as well. Although, Richie did build up the courage to ask Trini on a study date. Too bad the episode Richie asked Trini out was also one of the last episodes before the unexpected leaving of the actress and actors that played Trini, Zack, and Jason from the show.
When Thuy Trang, Austin St. John, and Walter Emmanuel Jones (it is rumored that they wanted more money), their characters were written off the series in the two-part "Power Transfer" episode. Trini went to the Peace Conference, and was never heard from again, having been replaced by Aisha Campbell.
