Triple Divide Peak
Encyclopedia : T : TR : TRI : Triple Divide Peak
- For the 3850 m mountain in California, see Triple Divide Peak (California).
Rainfall on the western side of the peak enters the Flathead River watershed, a tributary of the Columbia River and on to the Pacific Ocean. The northeastern slope of the mountain sheds water toward the Saskatchewan River, which flows to Cedar Lake, which drains to Lake Winnipeg, which ultimately drains into the Arctic Ocean via Hudson Bay. Moisture on the southeastern slopes feed the Marias River which is a tributary of the Missouri River. The Missouri River joins the Mississippi River at St. Louis, eventually finishing at the Gulf of Mexico of the North Atlantic Ocean.
Triple Divide Peak is the hydrologic apex of the North American continent.
