Vishnu's Threefold Steps in the Rig Veda

Interpretation

Trivikrama in the Bible

Images similar to Trivikrama's movement in the Rig Veda can be found in The Revelation of St John (Chapter 12, 7.), written on the Greek island, Patmos, around 70 AD. In his vision of Heaven or the Cosmos, John sees four `beasts' therein: the first is a Lion, the second is a Calf, the third is a Man, and the fourth an Eagle (Norelli-Bachelet, 1976). The same reference can be found in 'The Book of the Prophet', Ezekiel Chap: 1; 4-20

"I looked and behold, a door opened in Heaven; and the voice said, come up hither, and I will show you the things which must be hereafter. And immediately I was in the spirit: And beheld a throne was set in Heaven and One sat on the throne. And round about the throne were four and twenty seats and upon the seats were four and twenty elders clothed in white raiment and on their heads, crowns of gold. And in the midst of the throne were four beasts with eyes before and behind. And the first beast was like a Lion [Leo] and the second beast like a calf [Taurus], and a third beast had a face as a man [Aquarius] and the forth beast was like a flying eagle [Scorpio]. And the four beast had each of them, six wings about him and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was and is and is to come.“ The Revelation of Saint John the Divine Chap: 4; 1-9
