Example of a trocar
A trocar (Fr. "three side") is a cylinder with a sharply pointed end, often three-sided, that is used to introduce cannulas etc. into blood vessels or body cavities. The trocar is often passed inside a cannula, an functions as a portal for the subsequet placement of other devices, such as a chest drain, intravenous cannula etc.
