Tryptone

A peptide formed by the digestion of casein (commonly found in milk) by the protease trypsin.
Tryptone is commonly used in microbiology to produce Luria-Bertani broth (Lysogeny broth) for the growth of E. coli. It provides a source of protein for the growing bacteria.
