The title Tui Viti was a title used by Ratu Seru Epenisa Cakobau, who, with the help of foreign settlers, united Fiji's disparate tribes under his leadership and was crowned Tui Viti (King of Fiji) in 1871. He renounced this title on ceding the islands to the United Kingdom in 1874.
