The Turner Broadcasting System (often abbreviated to Turner or TBS), based in Atlanta, Georgia, is the company managing the collection of cable networks and properties started by Ted Turner from the mid-1970s to the late-1990s. Their current assets include CNN, TBS (and corresponding over-the-air Atlanta station WTBS-17), Turner Network Television, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Boomerang, Court TV, Turner South†, and Turner Classic Movies. TBS also manages Turner Entertainment, the holding company for Turner's library of classic films from the MGM, RKO and pre-1948 Warner Bros. catalogs.
Turner Broadcasting also provides its PC gaming service, GameTap, and its online purchase service, Bamzu.
Turner Broadcasting merged with Time Warner in 1996, and now operates as a semi-autonomous unit of Time Warner.
†In a deal announced on February 23, 2006, Turner South has been sold to Fox Cable Networks and will become a regional sports channel. Fox assumed control of the network on May 1.
